Everyday uses for hemp oil

While relatively unknown, edible hemp oil is packed with some extraordinary properties. What’s more, it’s derived from plants grown and processed right here in Quebec! Before we begin, keep in mind that hemp oil is not the same as cannabis oil, which contains THC and/or CBD. Used nutritionally, hemp oil contains no substances that might cause psychotropic effects. Instead, this oil is comprised of essential fatty acids, with ideal proportions of omega-3 and -6, and it also contains vitamins A, E, B1, B2 and B6. Among other benefits, it keeps the cardiovascular system healthy, helps prevent cognitive disorders and reduces inflammation in the body. Here are three ways you can use hemp oil every day.

In the kitchen

Since it’s rich in omega-3, the fatty acids in hempseed oil are fragile and do not withstand heat. The oil’s nutrients are preserved by cold pressing hemp seeds. Moreover, we recommend using hemp oil in its raw form to best preserve its quality. The taste is known for being both subtle and distinctive and it is often used to enhance the flavour of dishes. Here are some simple but tasty ideas:

– as an infused oil, perfect for dipping bread

– as a pesto, for spreading on crackers

– as a vinaigrette for dressing your favourite salads

– drizzled over hot pasta with a little lemon and herbs

– as a hummus, ideal for eating with raw vegetables or as a sandwich spread

For functional nutrition

Orijin hemp oil is a product that has been licensed by Health Canada, who recommends its use for maintaining good health through the consumption of:

– linoleic acid (LA)

– alpha-linoleic acid (ALA)

– essential fatty acids

– gamma-linoleic acid

Since it’s a balanced source of omega-3 and -6 that helps to protect the cardiovascular system by lowering the level of bad cholesterol, regular consumption is strongly recommended. In addition, the effect of omega-3 on depression and anxiety are well-known and consuming hemp oil can even reduce the impact that stress has on the body. Furthermore, the presence of vitamins E and A are thought to help prevent diseases related to cognitive decline and stroke. At the end of the day, it is an excellent oil to consume. Here are some ways to make it part of your daily life:

– taken by spoon, with a recommended dose of 2 teaspoons per day

– in a smoothie, with other healthy fruits and vegetables

– in capsules, made at home

In beauty products

In addition to its extraordinary properties when consumed, hemp oil also has many benefits when used externally. Its light and non-greasy texture is ideal for hair, skin and nails. It enriches the scalp and adds moisture to damaged, dry and unruly hair. Its composition helps stimulate hair fibres and is suitable for all hair types, even very fine hair. At the same time, hemp oil is super easy to apply, perfect for both the face and body and ideal for sensitive skin, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to relieve irritating skin conditions, such as rosacea, acne and eczema, and is a superb treatment for the prevention of wrinkles. It can also be used on nails to moisturize and strengthen cuticles. Here are some application methods for use at home:

– apply a few drops on the scalp and massage it in

– use it as a mask to moisturize dry hair

– apply to freshly shaved skin on the body

– use it as a massage oil or mask for either the face or body

– add it to your bath for full-body hydration

– use it to massage your cuticles
